I <3 finding new things...

Today has been a day full of research, research, research...and on days like these everything can turn into a bit of a lovely creative, pretty blur. Although lovely, although creative, although pretty it's still a blur, meaning it's hard for me to remember one specific artist/style/piece that I really, really enjoyed. But today is a little different, I stumbled across a lovely little illustration by the artist Alberto Cerriteño... It warmed my heart and made me smile a little inside...

What is it about owls that make them so god damn adorable??! Seriously? What.is.it?
I love the effort put into this piece, I really like the attention to detail, the colours and different treatments used. Bah - this isn't an educated art review! - I just love the owl's curly little eyebrows and heartfelt message :))) !

Positive Posters ~ Change

During the holidays we were given the Poster Posters brief. Tomorrow is our 75% deadline and I'm looking forward to showing my lecturer and getting some feedback.
PP is an international poster campaign open to graphic design students and professionals. The project aims to publish positive posters around city walls that will challenge/inspire people to make a positive change in their lives.

The Brief

Design a poster that will stand out from the mass of media that exists in our cities and that has a positive message inspired by the first theme.

Theme: Change

Don’t be afraid of change. Change can be positive.
While there are some things that are changing for the worst at the moment,
we think that there is always room for changes that achieve a positive outcome.

The entries will be viewed and voted on by a panel of leading creatives from Melbourne around the world. The judging panel will assess entries based on the strength of the visual impact, the message that is being communicated and how strongly the entry represents and expresses the theme.

Cleaning, organising, changing

My room has been a little dull for the past few months so I FINALLY decided to do something about it these holidays.. I've had a little plan in mind for quite some time.

THE plan:

* I love the antique white dressers with the perfect mirrors and crystal trinket boxes, unfortunately my room is quite small so I am not able to fit an old dresser of this sort so I am taking a modern approach. I have purchased a white "cubed" bookcase, my jewellery is set on top with books, dvds and other special little things inside the cubed sections. Looks very nice and it's so wonderful being able to see all my jewellery on display!

* I have a wooden un-varnished desk with my mac, uni books, printer and random teddies and magazine placed all over it (haha a tad messy!!) I would love to get this desk (which in real fact is a door held up using filing cabinets) varnished to be a similar finish to my bed with a white edge trim to fit in with my dresser.

* I am starting to collect the wonderful Sylvanian Families (so so soooo sweet and detailed and wonderful and cute!) so I really need to find a place to display my lovely little family. My desk is quite large so I think I will have enough room after I rearrange the printer and current mess haha.

* A couple of months ago I bought a H.I.M Razorblade Romance 12" vinyl and I really want to get this framed and put on my wall. Although a little different in style to my new white "dresser" and white edged desk but with the pink colour scheme and ornate details in the imagery I think it will still fit in with my room decor as it looks quite feminine (Even if it didn't I would still have it :P)

* Walls Decals! I want to decorate my wardrobe with a typographic wall decal. I can just picture a really pretty quote being scrawled across my wardrobe in a really nice gothic, script typeface :)

That's about all the plans I have for my lovely little room, I think I will be living at home for a little while longer so I look forward to re-inventing it!

My wonderful friend Jake bought me the "Dita" Fashion Against Aids t-shirt (unfortunately I do not look as sexy as Dita in it :P)

I Carry Your <3

Sleeping Beauty

Just a quick post to say "How Gorgeous!"
This is such a lovely Manchester set. I love the soft, feminine colours and the embroidered detail. The detailing on the bed head is just Divine. It's almost too pretty to sleep in! Seeing images like this really makes me want to start thinking about my own house (when I get one hehe ;P) I think I might start a Home LookBook ^_^

][-][ ][ ][V][

I can't wait until I see these guys live. <3

Digital Versatile Doom Intro ~ Live at the Orpheum Theatre LA 2007
This is such a gorgeous opening to a concert. If you wish to see the rest of the concert you can view it one youtube or even buy the DVD. I definitely recommend it to any HIM fans. My favourite songs include: Wicked Game, It's all Tears, Right Here In My Arms, Soul on Fire, Funeral of Hearts. <3

Our Diabolikal Rapture ~ 1998
Old School HIM. Puffy hair, perfect voice hehe.

The Sacrament ~ Helldone NYE Concert Tavastia, HEL 2007/08
Every year HIM play a New Year's Eve concert in their homeland Finland. This clip is from 08/07. I absolutely adore "The Sacrament" I reallyyy hope they play it when I see them. It has a gorgeous piano intro reminiscent of a Silent Movie and beautiful lyrics. PLEASE NOTE: Ville is suuuuper skinny in this video so if you get freaked out by collar/hips /any bones you might just want to listen ;) Lovely gig despite Ville emaciated appearance.

Creativity is...

These gorgeous Paper Cuts are made by the Papercraft artist Julene.

"...Hi, I’m
Julene and I can create custom Paper Cuts for you. Everything you see below is a commission that I have handcut. They make for terrific gifts – Mothers Day, first wedding anniversary (it's paper!), wedding gifts, birthdays, family mottos or just something special you want to say..." http://madebyjulene.com/

Julene's Paper Cuts are beautifully executed and display great crafts(wo)manship. Her use of elegant detail and unique typography makes these paper cuts a prefect framed edition to your home or office. The detail is amazing and I really admire her patience and skill. Some of the listed quote are seriously sweet, the below has to be one of my favourites

"...I carry your Heart. I carry it in my Heart..."

It is the beautiful bird...

"...It is the Beautiful Bird that gets Caged..."

I will Love you, if you let me...

I'll swallow up all of you
Like a big bottle of big, big pills
You're the one that I should never take
But I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you

You're a flower that's withering
I can't feel your thorns in my head
This is no impressionability

You're not crying, this is blood all over me
You're not crying, this is blood all over me
You're not crying, this is blood all over me

And I'll love you, if you let me
And I'll love you, if you won't make me starve

I used to hold your heart to neck
I know I'll miss you if I close my eyes
But this is loaded with an open film
I'll see you and I'll blow your heart to pieces
I'll love you, if you let me
And I'll love you, if you won't make me starve
Oh oh oh oh... Oh oh oh oh... Oh oh oh oh... Oh oh oh oh...

My pain's not ashamed to repeat itself
Pain's not ashamed to repeat itself
Pain's not ashamed to repeat itself
Pain's not ashamed to repeat itself

I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you

And I'll love you, if you let me
And I'll love you, if you won't make me starve

Natalie's Baby Shower

nlMy older sister, Natalie's Baby Shower was held yesterday. We had a really great day and it was a lot of fun with friends and family. Natalie came back from Kununurra a few days ago and my Mother and I have been planning her Baby Shower ever since she got back!

The Baby's first "Ted" Chester. I bought this from ToyWorld in Ballarat. Chester has a lovely soft, chestnut with very cute paw print feet. Natalie loved Chester as he is extremely cuddly and cute :)

My Baby Shower presents were all Bathtime fun toys and accessories!
I wanted to buy a Baby Bath and other bathtime accessories,
^ Hooded Eeyore towel. I bought this from Big W as soon as I found out Natalie was pregnant. It is verrryyy cute and I hope the Baby loves Eeyore as he is my favourite Winnie the pooh character :)

You can probably see a bit of a theme ;)
^ Eeyore plush toy. Variety of bathtime toys; farm animal "tub-buds" and rubber duckie
The bath is an "Aqua funtime bath" which has a newborn baby sling that the baby can sit in while being bathed. It makes bathtime very easy for both the baby and Mum.

Baby clothes! A very cute 6 pack of jumpsuits, jumpers and pants in a lovely yellow and Elephant pattern. Natalie does not know the sex of the baby so all the clothes we have brought are neutral colours like; pale yellow, green and purple.

Monthly Cd Exchange!

What is the Monthly Cd Exchange you ask? Ahh it's a wonderful thing where two friends from quite different musical backgrounds :: cough indie kid / mansonite cough :: share and recommend 1 Cd every month for the other to buy. Hopefully this Cd Challenge will open new musical doors and create an interest in bands that would otherwise be missed.

Month 1: June 09
My Cd: The Postal Service ~ Give UP

Tracklist:
1. The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
2. Such Great Heights
3. Sleeping In
4. Nothing Better
5. Recycled Air
6. Clark Gable
7. We Will Become Silhouettes
8. This Place is a Prison
9. Brand New Colony
10. Natural Anthem

Death Cab for Cutie's singer Ben Gibbard branches out to the electro indie-pop genre with The Postal Service's "Give Up"; the catchy beats and Gibbard's light vocals make this Cd an easy and enjoyable listen. The boppy intro to "A Brand New Colony" will be stuck in your heads for hours, but even after that you wont mind going home and giving it a few plays on repeat. I quite like this album as it has the quirky electronic elements without it being over the top and, dare I say...wanky.

I already had a burnt copy of this Cd, so I am familiar with most of the songs. My favourite songs on this album would have to be: Brand New Colony, The District Sleeps Alone Tonight and Sleeping In. It's nice to finally have a hard copy of this Cd as the booklet and visual elements make the listening experience that much stronger!

Relaxation is beautiful

Monday 11.30am I was able to take deep breath, smile to myself and walk away from a complete folio sitting on my desk at Camp Street Campus! Oh how wonderful it was to know this was the start of my holidays... What glorious plans do I have for the holidays you ask! Ahh before we get into that I would like to have a littl recap of my folio and show some of my completed works :)

Finals of YummiMummi between meal snack packaging.
I am really happy how they turned out ^_^ The three colours look really good and I love the simple logo.

Sovereign Press packaging.
They wanted to create a "thank you" send out to their clients for the end of year. The package needed to contact items a graphic designer would find useful and use on a day-to-day basis. The packages and contents also needed to displays Sovereign Press' capabilities when it comes to Print Finishes.
