Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair 08

Over stimulated..

Yesterday I went to the Craft and Quilt Fair held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
It's held in melbourne from Thursday 24th - Sunday 27th 9am - 5pm each day

There were lots of fantastic stalls (and when I say lots, I mean LOTS) that featured a vairety of crafts things from; glass beads, quilting fats, scrapbooking essentials, yarn, emboridery, decorative arts, stationary, stamps, sewing books, knitting essentials, Quilt competition, Japanese Textiles exhibition.. and SO SO SO much more!

I got rather excited of all the things on display to the point where my mother was like "calm down we have all day to look around".. yes I am a geek who gets over-stimulate to the point of excitement overload at a craft fair! haha

Unfourtunately we arrived at the Craft Fair at 1.30 so we didn't have alll day to look around, but next year we will definately know to go a lot early so we can look through all th stalls.

As you would expect I spent a bit of money on crafty goodness

Materials:

cute owl print - bought this along with an owl plushie pattern to make for a friend

I absolutely LOVE snowflakes and anything wintery in general. Have a few ideas of where I might use this material but that's a secret for the moment ;)

Bones, Bones Bones - will make something for our gorgeous dog Bobby

This was an impluse buy - don't have any plans for this peice of material but it's just lovely, I love the pattern and it's nice silver finish

Paper:

Cute Hello Kitty origami paper bought from a lovely little Japanese Stall with the nicest sho girls in the whole fair :)
Pluhie Pattern:

Melly & Me Plushie pattern for the two owls Hooty and Tweet. They are very cute in real life and I can't wait to make both (the owl material will come in handy here hehe!)

Magazines/Books:

"Softies" A Fantasic book which features 22 plushie from various craft artists. There are some reaaalllyyy cute plushies in here with detailed instructions and patterns.

Stampin' Up Magazine. I just LOVE stamps. This party plan "Stampin' Up" catalogue features a lot of very pretty stamp designs for every ccassion and overall is a good inspiration source

Paper Trends Magazine - Really good source for ideas for papercraft. This magazine has lots of lovely card, giftag, calendars, invitation idea and as someone that make home made cards every special occasion it will be nice to have some new influences :)

Necklaces:

Gorgeous glass pendants bought from a bead stall (can't remember the name :S) They are really nice and a bit different to my usual necklaces AND a bargain for only $6 each!! $6!!!!

I was just so amazed at all the beautiful stuff on display - the quilts were AMAZING and I can't even begin to think how much time and effort would be put into each quilt.
I was impressed by all of the stalls - a lot of the stalls had similar stock such as materials, scrapbooking supplies but each had their own little trademark whether it be their price of quilting fats the weren't in any other stalls.

I had a great day at looking at all the beautiful things and I must say it has given me a lot of inspiration to sew, sew, sew.. I can't wait to start on some of my plushie patterns :)

More Desktop Wallpapers

I have made two more desktop Wallpaers.
I made these the day after the Jared Leto wallpaper, so I have been a bit slack at actually uploading them.

The second wallpaper I made for my lovely boyfriend, Brad. He is a massive fan of Stargate, especially Stargate: Atlantis. The cool thing about Stargate is it has are a very recognisable visual identity.. even if you don't watch the show as soon as you see the large "Stargate" and blue, water effect of the Stargate you know what you are watching.

^ here is a rather small view of the SG:Atlantis wallpaper.
I used the same method as the Jared Leto wallpaper but played around a lot more with the lighting effects and "sparkles." I really wanted it to be glowing brightly around the stargate and I think I have achieved that :)

The thrid wallpaper I made was of the rad Bam Margera; my boyfriend and I have been going through a Bam (Viva la Bam, Jackass) phase for quiet a few months (..is it still a phase when it's lasted 5 months?? haha) We like Bam to the extent that I even bought a skateboard of eBay! Lol

Anyways, as any Bam Margera fan would know, Bam's favourite colours are purple and black and if often seen with the "Heartagram" symbol plastered on his clothes, skin and even in his house. So I incorporated these two elements along with a photo of Bam and the end result is quiet nice :)

This is my current desktop wallpaper and I haven't got sick of it yet so that's a good sign :)

A Beautiful Lie..

Unfortunately I don't have a glorious lie to tell you all (..or do I muahaha) BUT I do have a nice desktop wallpaper of Jared Leto from the band 3o Seconds to Mars :)

I created it using a large, high res image found on

http://jlczgallery.jl.funpic.de/

(this site has a lot of really good quality pictures perfect for desktop wallpapes XD) and CS2 Photoshop; I used a few different layers and played around with techniques and settings such as outer glow, gradient overlay, motion blur, render - clouds, scatter brushes and a few more tricks ;)

It looks quite nice on my computer :) and I can't wait to make more in this style of people like Dita Von Teese and Bam Margera

Hope you like it :)

P.s: I didn't end up making the Snow White vodoo doll in time :( More craft coming soon!

Creepy Creepers!

I'm slightly inlove with Deviant Art at the moment because it's such an open forum for all things creative and it's a great way to get opinions on my work and inspiration; there are lots of cool communities for specific areas of art, design, craft etc.

A community I reaaaaally want to participate in is Creepy-Craft creepy-craft.deviantart.com/
At the moment they have a really cool Fairy Tale contest:

This month's contest will be Fairy Tale themed.
All of the submissions must be inspired by your favorite fairy tale as a child.
Submitting will run from Monday, June 23 until Friday July, 18.

Fairy Tale Contest Rules * Any craft, costume, doll or accessory that is Fairy Tale inspired will be accepted.* Must be a new deviation. * Try to be original and creative. * Each member can submit up to 2 entries.* Use subject "CONTEST" in your submission note.

Hopefully I can pull something together by the 18th (definately will if i put my boop into gear! hehe)

As a child my favourite Fairy Tale was Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
Some ideas that I have been thinking about are..

A Snow White pendant; a little Snow White figure would be 'sleeping' inside a glass coffin. The glass coffin could be made out of plastic and the necklace chain would pierce through the plastic.

A Snow White voodoo doll (haha evil); Since the Queen dislikes the beautiful Snow White, she has made a voodoo doll so she's guarentee to be "...the fairest of them all..." Thinking of just making the doll out of felt and make little 'Snow White' clothing

^_^ both my ideas are a little morbid but it's CREEPY CRAFT gotta expect a tiny bit of evilness ;)
